The Second World Press Briefing of the 16th Asian Games kicked off with a simple but cordial opening ceremony at the Garden Hotel on Thursday morning with attendance of more than 200 journalists from home and abroad.

Wan Qingliang, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, Mayor of GuangZhou Municipality and Vice President of the Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC), attended to address the Wednesday event.

Other officiating guests were more than 200 delegates from 75 regional and global media organisations, and observers from the 17th Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee and 3rd Haiyang Asian Beach Games Organising Committee. Also in attendance were around 40 officials from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), State Sports General Administration of P.R. china, State Administration of Radio, Film and Television of P.R. China, United Arab Emirate National Olympic Committee, chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, Chinese Olympic Committee and GAGOC.

Mr Wan spoke at the welcome speech that “We are going to perfect media services to be delivered for the Guangzhou Asian Games and publish the media service guide for accredited media in the coming days and make sure the Main Press Centre and Media Village will start service in time.” And he also encouraged media friends to discover the beauty and showcase the charm of the host city through lenses, pens and microphones.

Manuel Silverio, Chairman of the Media Committee under the OCA, said that he expected more and better communications with media so as to deliver excellent media services during Games-time.

The Second World Press Briefing for the 16th Asian Games first included a walking tour of many of the key venues for the 16th Asian Games, including the Main Press Centre and Media Village of the Asian Games Town and Guangdong Olympic Aquatics Centre, on July 21.

The four-day event also included detailed presentations on July 22 by GAGOC departments on Main Press Centre; Venue Media Centres; Asian Games News Services; photo services; media services & new media; sports; image & look; accommodation & catering; transport; information technologies & telecommunication services, Rate Card/financial services/insurance; international freight & customs clearance; security; accreditation and cultural events.

There also will be unilateral meetings scheduled on July 23 on Rate Card, telecommunication technologies, Asian Games News Services, photo services, transport, accommodation, catering and freight handling, which serves as an important communication channel between GAGOC and media.
