In the opening ceremony of the summer camp, America-born chinese youngsters who participate in the “Root-Seeking Journey in china” felt extremely excited.
On the morning of July 13th, the second summer camp of Chinese and American student exchanges was officially opened in the No. 7 High School of GuangZhou. 40 America-born Chinese youngsters have returned to China on an eight-day trip designed to seek their ancestral roots in Guangzhou.
These forty students come from Lowell High School of America, a famous school that has cultivated three Nobel Prize winners. These students are to conduct in-depth exchanges with their counterparts from Guangzhou No.7 High School and Peizheng High School, They are going to live in the families of Chinese students to experience local customs.
It is learnt from Zheng Jianmin, deputy director of Overseas Chinese Affairs of Guangdong, the root-seeking activity of American-born Chinese in Guangzhou was initiated in the 1980s. The America-China summer camp for high school students was started last year. American students who participate in this year’s summer camp come from Auckland of California.
“This is the first time I’ve traveled alone without my parents’ company. My ancestral root is in Guangzhou, but I basically don’t quite know about the city. This summer camp has presented to me a great opportunity to exchange views with local students.” Guan Ziyin, an America-born Chinese student can speak very good Chinese.
This year marks the International Year of Forest. Therefore, in the coming week, research activities will be conducted under the theme of forest. Chinese and American students will travel on a trip to the red wood forest in zhuhai city for examination. Their research results will be presented in the form of thesis.
