china Daily and the GuangZhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC) signed an agreement to launch an English-language supplement for the Asian Games scheduled for later this year.
According to the agreement, China Daily will publish a 16-page daily supplement for the duration of the 16-day games, which will kick off on November 12.
GAGOC also signed cooperation agreements with other major domestic media, including People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, and Guangzhou Daily.
“The Asian Games is not only a big party for the athletes, but also for the media,” said Wang Xiaoling, an official in charge of promotion and media services of the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and Asian Para Games.
Wang said the main force behind the coverage of sports will be the national and local presses.
Till now, the committee has received 9,300 reporters’ application for accreditation from home and abroad.
After the World Cup and Expo 2010 Shanghai, it is estimated that by July 30, nearly 15,000 reporters will turn around to register as Games’ correspondents, according to Wang.
“It (signing of the agreement) only means the media have to shoulder their responsibility of covering the games,” said Liu Hui, in charge of the signing ceremony. “They just own the non-exclusive license.”
