The cross-Pearl River swimming event, now in its fourth year, will take place in mid-August and involve about 3,000 swimmers.

On July 7, the GuangZhou Municipal Government Procurement Center announced a maximum compensation of RMB 1.98 million for the successful bidder on the provision of services in relation to the upcoming swimming event.

The swimming will start from East Binjiang Road and the archway at Zhongda Pier. The successful bidder is required to set up assembly, inspection and logistical support areas and a rostrum for the event. The assembly area will be able to accommodate about 3,000 people and equipped with tents, parasols, change rooms, and mobile toilets.

The swimming event has teen tentatively scheduled for mid-August, when The Pearl River will have larger flows and improved water quality in the rainy season. This year’s water quality is expected to reach Grade III, on a par with last year’s and in conformance to environmental standards for swimming water. No exact date has been set for the event as it will depend on weather and river currents.
