Recently an expert panel inspected the earthquake resisting ability of the tower and podium of East Tower of Zhujiang New Town.

The East Tower was constructed by eight huge columns and space ring truss connecting them. With the internal core tube, a structural system of huge frame plus core tube was formed. The eight huge columns were made of huge steel tubes with high-intensity concrete poured into, and the ring truss used space steel structure and was closed by 8 huge columns.

The external wall of the core tube at the town bottom not only used high-intensity concrete but set double steel plates to form steel plate shear wall. These measures could solve the problem of inadequate structural rigidity caused by the high and slim structure of the east tower, and the structural safety and comfort the tower in typhoon and earthquake.

The internationally leading and performance-based anti-earthquake designing methods were adopted in the construction of the east tower, enabling it to resist the earthquake measuring 8 on the Richter scale. In the meantime, the most advanced analysis software used in Aeronautics and Astronautics was adopted to simulate the attacks by explosion, collision, fire, hurricane and terrorists to guarantee enough safety of the tower.
