Sui (Ears of Rice) is short for Guangzhou and the City of Ram (Yang Cheng) is also an alias of Guangzhou. The kapok is the city flower and the kapok tree is the city tree of Guangzhou. Guangzhou is located in the middle south of Guangdong Province, north of The Pearl River Delta. It lies close to the South China Sea, Hong Kong, and Macau. Zhujiang (The Pearl River), the third largest river of China, runs through Guangzhou and is navigable to the South China Sea. Situated in such an excellent geographical region, Guangzhou is called China’s South Gate. Covering an area of 7434.4 square kilometers (2870 square miles), Guangzhou is home to more than 11 million people, including a 3.7 million transitory population. With the opening of China to the outside world, a large number of people from other regions of China swarmed into Guangzhou, one of the first ‘open’ cities in China. This has accelerated its economic development. Guangzhou is a famous historical city. In ancient days, Guangzhou was the capital city for three chinese dynasties: the Nan Yue (South Yue), the Nan Han (South Han) and the Nanming (South Ming). Thus it was put in the list of the 24 most famous historical cultural cities and became a tourist destination. You can not understand most Chinese cities …

A foreigner who had his knife confiscated by Guangzhou Metro security takes out his anger on the passengers in the subway, giving them the middle finger, swearing at them, calling the women whores. When a woman who understands English confronts him, he knocks her mobile phone out of her hands, prompting the surrounding Chinese passengers to swarm him and begin beating him. When Metro workers intervene, they end up taking away the Chinese passengers and leaving the foreigner, angering many Chinese witnesses and viewers. Neither of them had ever been to Asia so they were excited to check out for themselves firsthand what China had to offer. Join them on their journey to discover China, its people and the misconception behind their furniture, labor and products. Never had they imagined the immense amount of resources they would discover and now be able to offer to their residential and commercial clients. This third video shows their day off shopping on Beijing Road and a visit to a temple in Guangzhou, China. They chose to take the subway to see how the locals really do it. See how nearly 13 million people get around using a very efficient subway system more than 8 stories underground. Unfortunately video does not depict the smell of too many people with the use of NO deodorant can be. Another thing worth mentioning is that most men carry the purses of their loved ones and the obvious affection towards their children. Enjoy!
The White Swan Hotel located in Shamian, Liwan District will temporarily close its accommodation services as of September 16 for large-scale renovations.

The White Swan Hotel located in Shamian, Liwan District will temporarily close its accommodation services as of September 16 for large-scale renovations.

The 28-year old hotel will undergo its first comprehensive renovation lasting for an entire year and costing over RMB 600 million. The project will renew the hotel’s facilities and enlarge the rooms to help the first Sino-foreign cooperative five-star hotel to meet the ever-growing needs of patrons. After renovations the 843 rooms in the hotel will be reduced to about 500.

“We had over 90 percent occupancy yesterday,” said Xie Weijie, vice general manager of the hotel. He said many people had come to bid farewell these days.

According to Xie, the basic appearance of the hotel, especially given its unique scenic location, will be kept intact. However, the restaurants and dining halls will undergo work until early February of next year.

The White Swan is not the only landmark high-end hotel to see a need for renovation. In 2006 The Garden Hotel spent close to RMB 300 million in transforming itself into the first platinum five-star hotel in the city.

The White Swan Hotel was invested in by patriotic Hong Kong businessman Dr Henry Fok Ying Tumg, who considers the hotel his most successful investment. It now stands as the first modern hotel designed, constructed and managed solely by chinese and the first hotel in china open to public visitors.

Modern dance is a powerful interpreter of emotions, status and society. On Sep. 17, the art form will articulate feminine culture and its intriguing ability of martial power.

This rare insight into the less celebrated side of the female spirit will be shared with audiences due to the efforts of choreographer Cheng-Chieh Yu (余承婕), who was trained in Modern Dance, Tai Chi Quan and chinese Opera Movement in Taipei National University of Arts, Taiwan.

In 1994, after she completed an MFA in choreography at New York University, Yu began concentrating on building a fresh Post-Modern Dance Technique informed by a martial art style called BaGuaZhang (八卦掌). Starting in the 1990s, she studied with martial arts masters in New York City, Los Angeles and Taiwan. In 2008, she was acknowledged in the lineage of Wu Tan, with Master Jason Tsou, becoming one of the very few female initiates in The Wu Tan Lineage.

Currently working as assistant professor in the Department of World Art and Cultures at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), her newest performances explore traditional female martial archetypes. The themes do not resist the use of violence, as pacifist feminists might.

Interestingly, the Chinese characters “舞 (dance)” and “武 (military)” share the same pronunciation. Entitling the dance “Wu Wu Wu,” Yu playfully invites audiences into a worldscape progressing from martial arts to dance through body language, stage scenery and costumes.

When: 20:00 on Saturday, September 17, 2011

Where: Guangdong Song and Dance Theatre 广东歌舞剧院小剧场

The first A380 aircraft will be used in domestic airline flights next month. From October 18 to 26 it will fly between GuangZhou and Beijing. From October 27 to 29 it will fly between Beijing and Shanghai. Tickets for these flights can now be booked at the official website of china Southern Airlines.

The first Airbus A380 of China Southern Airlines has 8 first-class seats, 70 business class seats and 428 economy class seats. As one passenger advised “Normally, the ticket price for first-class seats between Guangzhou and Beijing is about 3910 yuan. So for A380′s first ride, I’ll definitely try it. ” This inaugural flight of China Southern’s first A380 airbus on October 18, carries the flight number CZ 3800. The plane is expected to take off at 4 pm and arrive at Beijing at 7:15 pm; with the flight duration being 3 hours and 15 minutes. As mentioned the ticket price for one of the eight first-class seats is 3910 yuan and the price for economy-class is 1620 yuan. As shown on the website of China Southern Airlines, the price is almost the same for all other flights of a similar nature.

For its flights between Beijing and Shanghai from October 27 to October 29, the first-class seat will cost 2830 yuan and the economy class will cost 1070 yuan, which is 60 yuan less than the normal cost of economy class tickets of this airline.

China Southern Airlines has ordered 5 A380 aircraft. And, after the delivery of this first aircraft in mid-October，the others will shortly follow suit. Chen Juming, Vice President of Airbus China, says the delivery of first A380 to China Southern Airlines is an important event in both chinese and the world aviation.

Passengers demanded to open belongings will increase by 50 percent.

The airport authority reminds passengers not to bring contraband goods such as lighters, matches or lithium batteries. To avoid huge crowds and flight delays, the authorities have increased the current 25 security gates to 52.

Beijing and Shanghai airports have also concurrently implemented the level II security check. Level II security check was once operated during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and 2010 Shanghai Expo.
