The southern chinese city of GuangZhou, capital of Guangdong Province, has become the third city in china to introduce higher quality gasoline similar to Euro IV standard gasoline used in Europe.

The city allowed sales of Yue 4 standard gasoline from August 1 and would introduce Yue 4 standard diesel next year, aiming to reduce vehicle emissions by 15 percent, the China Petrochemical News reported on Tuesday (August 3).

Beijing introduced Euro IV fuel before the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and Shanghai adopted the cleaner fuel in November last year, ahead of this year’s Shanghai Expo.

Guangzhou will host the Asian Games in November, one of Asia’s largest sporting events.

The rest of China was required to use Euro III standard gasoline from January this year and Euro III diesel from June 2011.
