Former world champions Xie Xingfang and Zhao Ruirui “painted” two wings for Haixin Tower – the new GuangZhou TV Tower – with torches last night to show their support for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games.

The two took part in a light graffiti event beside The Pearl River in Zhujiang New Town as the launch ceremony of the “Guangzhou, I support you” campaign, initiated by NetEase, a leading Internet portal in china powering the Official Website of the Games.

“I’m very excited to have participated in the Asian Games as an athlete and to continue to serve the cause after retirement,” said Miss Xie, a former World No. 1 of Badminton who currently works for the Volunteers Department of the Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC).

What is Haixin Tower?

Haixin Tower, which is also named Guangzhou TV & Sightseeing Tower, is a tower currently under construction near Chigang Pagoda, Haizhu District, Guangzhou, China. It was topped-out in 2009 and will be completed in 2010 in order to be fully operational for the 2010 Asian Games.

The design for the Guangzhou TV Tower in China was won by Information Based Architecture (IBA) and Arup in 2004. Architects Mark Hemel and Barbara Kuit have proposed one of the tallest buildings on the banks of the Pearl River in Guangzhou’s Tianhe District, standing at a height of 610m.
