The GuangZhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC) invited global journalists and photographers to have a glimpse of Haixinsha Island- venue for the Opening & Closing Ceremonies of the 16th Asian Games during the Second World Press Briefing as Manuel Silverio, Chairman of the Media Committee under the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), told the accredited media that the Opening ceremony of the Games must be an innovative and enterprising show.
On the first day of the Second World Press Briefing, media delegations from home and abroad were on a tour to the Guangzhou New TV Tower and had a chance to view Haixinsha Island from the other side of The Pearl River.
The Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games will be held on Haixinsha Citizen Square, which is located on Haixinsha Island in the Pearl River at the south of the Zhujiang New Town, the north of Guangzhou TV & Sightseeing Tower and the east of Ersha Island.
Mr Silverio told the media that, he was confident that the Opening Ceremony will be of great creativity and new generation of high-tech applications; it should be a grand performance inspired by the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games and 15th Asian Games in Doha in 2006; the November 12-27 Games feature 476 sports event programme and will definitely excite the world.
