The Job Fair for Foreigners was held last Saturday (April 23) at the china Hotel, A Marriott Hotel. As the first session held in GuangZhou by the Guangzhou Foreign Experts Bureau, the fair attracted over 600 high quality foreigners from The Pearl River Delta region.
The one-day fair released about 1,000 vacancies for the job seekers, 70 percent of which were focused on teaching and editorial work. The universities, language training institutes, international schools and kindergartens all met a great number of excellent candidates and are expected to solicit the right person due to help from the fair. Lynn Li from British Council Guangzhou said they received more than ten resumes that morning. Considering their high demand on the part-time IELTS examiners position, she felt confident they would meet the right candidate at the fair.
The job fair also offered professional positions like technicians and sales managers. Ms. Swapna from India told Lifeofguangzhou.com that she preferred a medical professor position at the Guangzhou Medical University, which was her reason for coming to the fair. Along with her husband, a medical professor at the Southern Medical University, and her five-year-old daughter she now lives in Guangzhou.
The Guangzhou Dockyards Co. Ltd. planned to recruit a project manager to take over their co-operation with Singapore. The HR manager Mr. Chen Jianwei said the right candidate should be proficient with advanced ship manufacturing and experienced in project management. But he seemed to be pessimistic with the result of this high demand vacancy with an annual salary of 20-100 SGD. “The job participants are too young and have no experience in ship industry,” he said.
The Job Fair for foreigners has been held in Beijing and Shanghai but never before launched in Guangzhou. Every year over 100,000 qualified foreigners arrive in Guangzhou for work. According to the Outline of Guangzhou Municipal Medium and Long Term Talent Development Planning (2010-2020), Guangzhou puts great importance on increasing high-level international talent for developing the city’s portal industries.
