Hong Kong is one of the world’s most developed commercial sectors and acts as a hub for major companies such as the Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation. It is completely autonomous from main land china despite being under the control of the PRC government. This thriving metropolitan region boasts such attractions as Disneyland, the Hong Kong Wetlands Park and many more.

Today we focus on the popular attraction known as the region of Kowloon, located on the southern section of the Hong Kong New Territories and to the north of Hong Kong Island. The name for this region originated from the word “nine dragons” which comes from the eight peaks and a chinese emperor that overlooks Kowloon and its bay.

Kowloon is home to many significant landmarks and attractions in Hong Kong including the many culture and science museums in the region. Take a walk along the Avenue of the Stars, similar to the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame only representing the cream of the Hong Kong entertainment scene. Enjoy the wonderful view at night thanks to the “lights of capitalism” as you stroll along the Kowloon waterfront that affords spectacular views of the Hong Kong Island shoreline and skyline. Similarly at every night you can enjoy the Symphony of Lights which is held atop some of the key buildings in Kowloon, the best place to enjoy this dazzling show is on the Avenue of the Stars, do not forget to tune into a radio station to help understand what the show means and how to interpret the light effects.

For museum lovers, Kowloon is host to some of the major museums in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Cultural Centre is sadly know as the “most famous ugly building” in Hong Kong. Opened in 1989 it offers an architecturally stunning interior that houses the history of the Hong Kong arts scene and is the site of plays and musicals. For the artistically inclined, the Hong Kong Museum of Art is home to a significant collection of Chinese paintings and sculptures representing key periods in China’s artistic history. Curious about the heavens? Then head to the Hong Kong Space Museum, which charts China’s historic rise into the annals of space flight and visitors are able to partake in the interactive exhibits.
