Luogang District, established with the approval of the State Council in April 2005, is located in eastern GuangZhou. Luogang is home to the Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development District, the Guangzhou High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, the Guangzhou Export Processing Zone, the Guangzhou Free Trade Zone, and the Guangzhou Tariff-free Logistics Zone, all of which are among the first group of national-class economic functional zones approved by the State Council. They are windows on Guangzhou’s reform and opening-up initiatives.
The Luogang District is dominated by industry. The six pillar industries of refined chemicals, electronic information, bio-pharmaceutics, food & drinks, metal smelting and processing, automobiles and parts are continually expanding, with their gross industrial output value accounting for over 80% of the whole District. The industrial cluster effects are increasingly evident. From the downstream of simple processing and assembly to the upstream of high end industrial chains of core manufacturing processes and R & D, the Luogang District has come into being as a development model for industrial clusters. Within the District, there is the world’s largest chewing gum manufacturing factory and a toothpaste manufacturing factory. Also the Luogang District has established the largest air conditioner compressor production base, circuit board production base, one of the stainless steel circuit board production bases and the first car export production base in china.
The Luogang District has distinct technological innovation advantages. It has established the Guangdong Software Park, the Guangzhou International Business Incubator, the Guangzhou Entrepreneur Park for Overseas chinese Scholars, the Guangzhou Technology Innovation Base, the National “863″ Software Industry Incubator (Guangzhou) Base and the Zhitong Information Industrial Park, covering an area of 500,000 square meters. There are thousands of various research and development institutions, engineering centers, and R & D teams, among which 26 are national and provincial level engineering centers certified by the relevant provincial authorities, and 8 are provincial level enterprise technology centers. A group of world famous multinational enterprises have been attracted to set up their R & D centers here.
The Luogang District is blessed with numerous landscapes and scenic spots, including the Tianluhu Forest Park, the Danshuikeng Beauty Spot, the Luogang Xiangxue Park and more. The Luogang has a long history with 270 historical relic information points, such as Yuyan Institute (Lufeng Temple), Fayu Temple (Jixiang Temple), Huafeng Temple (Haimen Buddha Hall), Saint Offspring Ancestral Temple, The Zhong’s Ancestral Hall Buildings, Xuandi Ancient Temple, Beidi Ancient Temple, Shuixi Ancient Village and more.
