April 24, the annual GuangZhou Mazu Culture Tourism Festival opened in the Tin Hau Temple (Mazu Temple) Square, Nansha. The festival has taken the fancy of visitors from The Pearl River Delta, Hong Kong, Macao, Fujian Province and even Taiwan. It is estimated that over 100,000 people attended the festival in the last single day, and the festival will continue until May 3.

Mazu, also spelt Matsu, is believed to be the indigenous goddess of the sea protecting fishermen and sailors and is invoked as the patron saint of all Southern chinese and East Asian persons.

It is reported that a daily grand worship ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on the Tin Hau Temple Square during the festival. And also there will be 1,051 packs of Mazu noodles and 2,011 bags of Mazu rice freely distributed everyday, which refers to the 1051st birthday of Mazu.
