Across Renmin Bridge, it is Shamian where the green trees shade one another. Shamian is a good place for people to rest and visit, and has been defined as Important National Grade Cultural Relic Protection Unit and Historical Cultural Conservation Area by State Council. Shamian has been called the 9th Sight Spot of GuangZhou all the time, and is a historical cultural scenic spot with European architectural style.

This wide surface of water in front of us is called White Goose Pool. Here the water is running rapidly, and the tide is smooth, and the three parts of Pearl River join here, so forms the widest water surface in the city zone.

The great building standing tall and upright on the north side of the river and overlooking the White Goose Pool is just the famous White Goose Hotel, which is so called because of the name of White Goose Pool. It is the first 5-star hotel designed and constructed and managed by china itself, and it has been open to the whole society.

In front of the White Goose Hotel is Huangsha Wharf, which is the largest passenger transportation Wharf of the passenger liner company. Under the water, it is Pearl River Tunnel passing through Pearl River and connecting the north of the river with Fangcun.

Pearl River is the mother river of Guangzhouneses. She is not only provided with a beautiful scene, but also there is a lot of significant legends and stories moving one to praises and tears. The famous Silk Road on the Sea in the ancient time just started here and had been a long history; and the famous Thirteen Hongs, Temple of South China Sea God, and Huangpu Military Academy are all beside Pearl River.

So the historical culture accumulation here has been profound. When you visit by water on Pearl River, you will feel that you seem to be reading a running historic book. It is very helpful for on to understand Guangzhou’s history of more than 2,000 years and to know the profound intension of this famous historical cultural city.
