Main Responsibilities of the Statistics Bureau of GuangZhou Municipality:

1. Implementing the policies, laws, rules and regulations by the central, provincial and municipal governments; conducting statistical surveys entrusted by the Municipal Government and higher authorities. Guiding and coordinating the statistical work and the national economy accounting of the Municipality. Formulating rules and regulations on statistical work in accordance with the actual conditions of Guangzhou; supervising and inspecting the enforcement of the statistical laws and regulations.

2. Implementing the national economy accounting and statistical index systems, carrying out the national statistical standard and the basic statistical report system, and formulating the local statistical report system and the local statistical criteria, and managing to put them into practice. Examining and approving the statistical survey items and the statistical programs that go beyond the jurisdiction of the departments directly under the Municipal Government.

3. Guiding and coordinating the main surveys of the overall national and municipal strength; the urban and rural socio-economic surveys, and the enterprises’ surveys. Organizing and carrying out other comprehensive statistical surveys across the city (including the supposed statistical survey items, periodic and non-periodic, regular and irregular).

4. Collecting and sorting out the basic statistical data of the municipal economy, science & technology and social development, and the data concerning the national economy accounting. Conducting statistical analyses, prediction and supervision of the city-wide national economy operations, of the progress of science and technology, and of the social development. Providing well-timed statistical data and suggestions to the CPC Guangzhou Committee, the Municipal Government and other relevant departments.

5. Examining and publishing the statistical data of the whole city. Releasing to the public the statistical information about the city’s national economy and social development at regular intervals.

6. Improving and administering the computer-aided statistical data system and the statistical database system across the city. Guiding and coordinating the construction of computer-aided statistical information system for the departments directly under the Municipal Government, districts, county-level cities, and enterprises.

7. Administering the divisions directly under the Statistics Bureau, guiding the statistical divisions of the districts and county-level cities, and offering assistance to the directors of the said divisions. Managing the municipal urban and rural socio-economic survey teams, and the municipal enterprise survey teams in accordance with the commission of the National Bureau of Statistics of the People’s Republic of china.

8. Guiding the basic statistics standardization, statistical education & training, statistical research, and international exchanges of all the statistical divisions in the city. Assisting the relevant departments in holding the city-wide statistical examination for the title of a professional post.

9. Undertaking other tasks entrusted by the Municipal Government and higher statistics authorities.
