The 10th china Koi (brocaded carp) Beauty Contest shall be held in Panyu Square, GuangZhou on September 29. The Guangdong Aquarium Association announced that thousands of kois from across the country will participate in this national championship. This year, Japanese experts have been invited to judge the contest bestowing even more glory upon the winning fish.
Koi, or brocaded carps, were introduced to chinese mainland in 1983. In just 27 years, fish farms for such fish cover over 6,500 hectares as it has become a trend for the rich to raise these “noble fish” which can be worth several hundred thousand yuan.
This is the first time Guangzhou holds this national contest. Besides the beauty competition, photographers wil be allowed to get some close up shots and a painting activity shall be held for the kids. What’s more, the 8th Guangdong travel gourmet festival will also be held in Panyu Square giving visitors a great opportunity to try out some interesting snacks.
